We here at Martha Stewart Weddings believe your wedding is the perfect opportunity to personalize everything
. After all, it's your big day, so why wouldn't you want to make it your own from start to finish? One of our favorite ways to put your mark on your celebration is with delicious signature cocktails. Coming up with "his and hers" drinks can be a fun way to show your guests a little bit about who you are, or how you two came to be: Consider serving the drinks you like to sip while out to dinner, or the cocktails you shared on your very first date. Or maybe you both want to pick a drink that reminds you of home, or a favorite vacation. Whatever the reason behind the choice, your guests will love imbibing in a few cocktails that say a little something about you and your spouse.
One of the best parts about having a signature cocktail? The name! You might choose to serve a simple margarita and an old fashioned, but that doesn't mean you can't give them a fun new moniker. You can also craft your own specialty sips and come up with labels for those. Flavor is another big part of making your beverages stand out, as are how you serve and display them.
So, if you need some inspiration on what to serve, what to call them, and how to present them, look no further than these his and hers cocktails ideas, starting with these beverages by Lonesome Valley's Canyon Kitchen. The drinks (an old fashioned and a gimlet) were served in adorable glasses customized by Rebecca Rose Events.
In the Details
This couple's signature sips, by Detailed I Do's, proved the power of—you guessed it—details. The groom's bourbon drink was infused with dark cherries, while the bride's martini was topped with dried petals. Together, the concoctions were both creative and eye-catching.
Pretty Presentation
Your guests will have a hard time choosing between your two signature drinks if they're presented this prettily! Marabou Design created beautiful bar signs for this couple spotlighting each of their specialty cocktails.
Stylishly Served
Add even more personality to your signature drinks by serving them on a unique platter (or in this case, a wooden slab). These cocktails (Kentucky mules and strawberry-jalepeno margaritas) were concocted by Field to Table Catering & Events.
A Classic Combination
It's clear that Moscow mules and old fashioneds are trendy signature drink options, as Paula LeDuc Fine Catering served them together at this wedding.
Bright Beverages
This couple's Ram's Head Inn wedding featured Americano and daiquiri cocktails. The former were made with Campari, red vermouth, and soda water; the latter were traditional lime-flavored renditions of the rum drink.
So Refreshing
This couple's Le Papillon libations (a lavender cocktail and a special mule) looked oh-so refreshing.
Keeping It Classic
Your signature cocktails don't have to be anything fancy—they just have to represent your individual tastes! Take this couple, who served classic mojitos (for her) and Moscow mules (for him) by Gabriel's Liquor. The two drink options were displayed on a bar sign calligraphed by Keeligraphy.
Festive and Floral
Floral signature cocktails are actually quite popular. For this wedding, Liquid Catering served elderflower concoctions alongside margaritas on the rocks.
Beer-y Tasty
Your drinks don't have to be cocktails. Consider serving each of your favorite brews. These beers came from Coppertail Brewing Co.
Location, Location
This Real Food-catered wedding's drinks were based off locations: Kentucky mules and Manhattans.
Celestial Inspiration
How cool were these celestial-inspired Snake Oil Cocktail Co. tipples? The "New Moon" contained whiskey, green tea, mint, blood orange, and honey. The "Sun and Sky" featured sake, aquavit, lime, elderflower, and sea salt.
Two of Everything
This bride and groom served two cocktails, two wines, and two beers—all of which were listed on this Paper Tangent sign. The signature drinks were called "Return of Spring" (cucumber, vodka, elderflower liqueur, mint syrup, lemon juice, and soda water) and "Demitrio's Dilemma" (bourbon, lemon juice, ginger beer, and angostura bitters).
Glasses to Match
Be sure to serve your signature drinks in the appropriate glassware! This groom's "Virginia Gentleman" (bourbon, maple syrup, orange and lemon juice, bitters, club soda, and a lemon twist) came in a lowball. Meanwhile, his bride's "French Kiss" (Chambord, pineapple juice, and pineapple sage) came in a coupe. Harvest Moon made the beverages.
Fun Names
This couple's specialty tequila- and bourbon-based sips had fun names: "The Tequila Sheila" and "The Bourbon Bloke." Peanut Press Creative put the options on this sign.
Great Garnishes
If you both love the same kind of drink, differentiate with garnishes. Here, the "his" old fashioned was served with blue-cheese olives; the "hers" old fashioned came with specialty cherries.
Coordinating Colors
Tie your picks together with a uniform color palette. These gin and bourbon drinks (by Catering Capers) were made with very different spirits, but both came in orange hues.
A Little Green
Here's another example of a super-creative cocktail combination: the "Desert Rose" (tequila reposado, mezcal, ginger, lime, rose water, and cactus) and "The Last Word" (gin, Green Chartreuse, Luxardo Maraschino, and lime juice). White Pepper created both drinks.
Half Bubbly
This couple served classic negronis as well as guava-flavored Prosecco drinks by Cobblestone Catering & Fine Foods.
Sweet and Spicy
This groom's signature drink (made with rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and mint) was sweet. His bride's (made with tequila, club soda, lime, and jalapeño), however, was spicy. Both were described on this sign calligraphed by Loveletter Studio.
Unique or Tried-and-True?
Celebrants at this wedding could choose from a unique signature drink and a familiar one: an "Arugula Greyhound" (gin, grapefruit juice, and arugula) or a rye Manhattan (rye, vermouth, cognac, cherry juice, and bitters). Both were by Susan Gage Caterers.
His, Hers, Ours
Simultaneously celebrate your individuality and your union by serving "his," "hers," and "ours" cocktails, like this bride and groom did.
Henry and Henrietta
Though their dog, Henry, wasn't there to celebrate his owners' special day, he was honored through two A Pimento Catering drinks—the "Henry" (for him) and the "Henrietta" (for her.)
First Date Drinks
On their very first date, she drank a French 75, while he sipped a Moscow mule. The couple served them at their wedding (catered by Susan Gage) in honor of the night that started it all.
Homage to College
This couple named their Grand Bevy signature drinks after their favorite college bars: The "Mykonos" (vodka, ouzo, thyme-infused honey, lemon, and Prosecco) and the "Landshark" (bourbon, black Assam tea, peach-vanilla reduction, lemon, and mint) were a hit with guests.
Their Favorites
This bride and groom served their all-time favorite drinks at their Olivier Cheng-catered wedding—a pear-elderflower Champagne cocktail and an old fashioned with rye and bitters, respectively.
Home is Wherever I'm With You
Although this couple tied the knot in Chicago, they wanted to honor the Brooklyn neighborhood where they live together, and did so through cocktails. He chose the Park Slope Pimms, a nod to the neighborhood where they live, and she picked the Montgomery, named after their street. Blue Plate catered their event.
For Penny
This couple was creative when it came to selecting their signature drinks. The groom opted for his favorite, a twist on a classic Manhattan, while the bride honored the couple's dog, Penny, with a festive cocktail named the "Penninsky." This sign was illustrated by KT Smail.
Based on Personality
The grooms' drinks were not only named after them, but also after their unique personalities. Guests chose between "The Sweet Nathan," a sparkling vodka with rosemary and club soda, and "The Feisty Jesse," a whiskey ginger with lime.
On Display
Etched onto a wooden menu, guests chose from an old fashioned (for him) and the "Monarch" (for her), a cocktail made with gin and elderflower liqueur.
