Amy and Bob’s Fox-Themed Wedding in Brooklyn
Amy and Bob first met when a pair of friends invited them out to a group dinner at an all-you-can-drink boxed wine restaurant. “As fate would have it, we ended up seated next to each other,” Amy says. “The rest is history.”
They dated for about three years, and eventually moved in together in a Brooklyn apartment. A few months later, Amy’s mom came to town for her birthday. The three of them went out to dinner and at the end of the night, Amy, a journalist, discovered that Bob, an attorney, had set up their place with candles, flowers, and their two “Mr. and Mrs. Fox” stuffed animals—a running joke in the couple’s relationship that stems from their shared love of the Wes Anderson movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. “I leaned down in our living room to read a note the foxes had ‘written’ for me and turned around to see Bob down on one knee,” Amy says. She said yes, and they invited friends over the next night for a casual, celebratory bash.
They tied the knot on August 9, 2014, in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn, New York, with about 150 guests in attendance. “We knew we wanted to get married in Brooklyn,” Amy says. “It’s our home, our favorite place, and it’s played such a big part in our relationship.” The couple decided to hold their wedding at The Liberty Warehouse, a historic building located on the Hudson River, after falling in love with its outdoor space and the beautiful view of the water. “Since we were going for a subtle Brooklyn, Art Deco, speakeasy theme, we loved the old-fashioned feel of the warehouse,” Amy says.
The Stationery Suite
Amy worked with Minted for everything from the save-the-dates to the drink menus. Inspired by the aquamarine stone in her engagement ring, Amy designed the stationery in shades of blue with metallic gold accents. As a nod to the fox motif seen throughout the wedding, she embossed the back of the invitation envelopes with the animal’s head as part of the return address stamp. Everly Calligraphy addressed the envelopes in gold.
The bride went with a silk organza Carolina Herrera dress from Mark Ingram Atelier. “I loved that it was a classic shape, but the large, painted-lace pattern made it feel summery, light, and modern,” Amy says. For shoes, she wore a pair of low-heeled, sparkly Jimmy Choo pumps. “I’m pretty tall as it is and I don’t wear heels all that often, so it made sense,” Amy says. Her hair was tied up in a long ponytail for a simple yet sophisticated look.
Sydney Evan made the bride’s emerald-and-diamond fox earrings. The groom also sported a foxy accessory—cufflinks. “I was thrilled with how much they looked like our fox monogram!” Amy says.
As a bridal shower gift, one bridesmaid gave Amy a BCBG Max Azria fox-embroidered clutch.
The Bride’s Bouquet
For a soft and organic feel, seasonal roses, dusty miller, astrantia, jasmine vines, and protea were used in the bride’s bouquet, made by Blossom and Branch.

Welcome totes with the words “Hold Me” on them were a punny gift to guests. Inside were items of significant value to the couple: a choose-your-own adventure book that they read together frequently, caramels made by a local confectioner, a list of some of their favorite things to do in Brooklyn, and other special treats. “We liked that the bag would give our guests a little piece of who we are as a couple,” Amy says.
Worried that the weather might get too hot, the couple decided that fans were a must. They used FanPrinter to create fans with their names and “I’m a fan” written on them. “I love a good pun,” Amy says. “It was a total breeze to work with them!”
In honor of Bob’s Jewish upbringing, Blossom and Branch designed a ceremonial chuppah with hydrangeas, roses, Queen Anne’s lace, jasmine vines, berry branches, and trailing greenery. A white cloth was laid over the top to shield the bride and groom from the sun—“which ended up being a good call!” Amy says.
Minted’s light blue wedding programs included a short and sweet rundown of the ceremony.
In honor of Bob’s legal career as well as the couple’s strong belief in marriage equality, they chose to have a wedding reading from the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage in the state. “We tried to bring in as many elements from our relationship as possible,” Amy says.
They exchanged vows and were happily pronounced husband and wife.
Fans in Action
In order to get some shade from the sun, guests made good use of their witty fans during the outdoor ceremony.
Stir sticks, coasters, and napkins from For Your Party were customized with the couple’s monogram and fox motif and used throughout cocktail hour.
The Silly Signs
The back of the drink menus featured a sign encouraging guests to have a cocktail.

Guests sipped on Sazeracs—a specialty drink that the couple had fond memories of tasting during a trip to New Orleans.
A Festive Drink
The second signature sipper was a gin fizz—each garnished with chevron straws, gold pom-pom stir sticks, and a cherry.
The Finger Foods
Maryland crab cakes were passed around along with potato pancakes, a nod to both Amy’s Maryland roots and Bob’s Jewish heritage. Also on the menu were oysters, the couple’s summertime favorite. “We had a ton of fun picking out the food!” Amy says.
The Escort Cards
Light blue escort cards by Minted were folded and propped up on a table for guests to easily grab. A floral arrangement dressed up the setup.
The Reception Setting
Located on the ground floor of The Liberty Warehouse, the reception room exudes an industrial vibe, with exposed brick walls and full windows facing the water. “It was perfect because it opened up to the outside and people could hang out on the patio,” Amy says. The couple decided to fill the room with a mix of round and long tables covered in navy linen to make the seating feel less uniform and to accommodate different-sized groups of friends.
Blossom and Branch combined astrantia, roses, hydrangea, dahlias, seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller for the table centerpieces.
The Place Settings
Eliza Gwendalyn calligraphed each person’s name in gold ink on navy place cards. Each place setting also included a dinner menu tucked inside a light blue cloth napkin.
Before the newlyweds headed inside for the reception, they shared a quiet moment by the water as the sun began to set. “I had pre-first dance jitters so Bob was goofing around to calm me down,” Amy says. “That was as perfect of a moment to me.”
For dinner, guests feasted on a three-course meal of frisée salad with goat cheese fondue, warm pear, and maple bacon; seared scallop in a saffron beurre blanc sauce; and prime rib with a bordelaise sauce and vanilla bean-whipped sweet potatoes. Mixed berries with a Marsala sabayon and crushed amaretto cookies were served for dessert.
After dinner, Amy and Bob had their first dance as husband and wife to the Zombies’ “This Will Be Our Year,” played by Hank Lane Music.
