It's officially 8 months until my wedding and according to my Type A planning schedule that means it’s beauty routine time. That’s right! Time for me to test out beauty products, skin remedies, cleanses, and workout routines that will make me look my best on the big day. Many of my friends have told me horror stories of bridal beauty experiences gone terribly wrong, from botched haircuts to allergic reactions from facials; so in order to save myself from a dramatic panic attack I'm kicking things off early.
First on my list is improving my smile. My custom Invisalign aligners are currently being made, and soon my smile will be on its way to perfection. Whoo! So while that’s underway I can focus my attention on other beauty efforts and at the moment it's getting in better shape. I played basketball in college so exercising isn't new to me, but my biggest challenge has always been finding routines that keep me motivated and engaged. Lately I've become obsessed with outdoor bootcamps and have gotten my fiancé hooked as well. So far it has been fantastic working out together. We challenge each other to get through workouts and in the end we always feel invincible. The next day I feel toned and sore all over, but it's totally worth it.
To kick things off I decided to try a juice cleanse for three days. No food, just juice, for three solid days. I've heard great things about how your skin clears up and how many people felt refreshed, clean, and recharged after juicing, so I thought, "What’s the worst that can happen?” OMG. What a colossal mistake. I've never been so cranky, fatigued, and miserable in my life. That experience taught me what the word "hangry" means. It’s basically when you're so incredibly hungry that you're just angry. I was so hangry during those three days that I cyber bullied people who posted food pics on Instagram. Who does that? Insane people, that’s who. So, needless to say, juicing will not be included in my beauty routine, but more power to the people who love it.
Although juicing almost turned me into a monster, I will say the positive outcome is that it made me more conscious of what I consume. I now read the nutrition labels of everything that I eat and have cut dairy, fried foods, processed sugar, and complex carbs from my diet. I'm already seeing great results. My skin is much clearer, I have a lot of energy, and I don't get sick as often as I did before. I’m glad to know that as I move into my Invisalign treatment, I can continue to eat healthy foods like apples, veggies and nuts. These foods would be off limits with other ortho treatments but are no problem with Invisalign since I can just pop ‘em out while I eat. If I continue monitoring what I eat and participating in these bootcamps, I'll be in great shape in no time!
