Kelly and Mike

Kelly and Mike share a small apartment near the ocean in Santa Monica, California, so it's no surprise that their wedding reflected the comfortable, intimate feel of the place they call home. The pair rented all 55 rooms at The Colony Palms Hotel to accommodate their friends and family, whose addresses span the length of the Golden State, making the Palm Springs location an accessible middle ground for their destination wedding. Plus, the two had their third date at the luxury hotel, and as the saying goes: By the third time, Kelly was charmed. After more than two years of dating, the couple wed on October 26, 2013, among 140 guests. With its Old Hollywood vibe and touches of Moroccan flare, the venue provided the ideal backdrop for Kelly and Mike to tap into their personalities and heritages while still maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Kelly wanted her stationery suite to look "gorgeous and glamorous," so she chose heavy card stock edged in emerald green and dramatic black envelopes addressed with gold calligraphy to accompany the letterpressed invites.

The bride-to-be wore an Elizabeth Fillmore gown that she purchased from San Francisco's Marina Morrison Bridal Salon. Kelly paired her sheath with Mary Jane heels by Jimmy Choo and earrings and a hairpiece by Jenny Packham. Her groom donned a Hugo Boss suit and tie.

"I was hoping to find a sheath dress," Kelly said, and that's exactly what she ended up wearing on the big day. The gown's sleek, simple front was balanced by an elaborate back.

Kelly clutched a bouquet by Brown Paper Design made up of peonies, ranunculus, anemones, jasmine vine, scabiosa, and lavender sprigs. In memory of her dad, the bride attached a piece of his shirt to the arrangement.

In addition to doing a first look in a secluded spot of desert not too far from the hotel, the couple also took portraits together and with their bridal party before the ceremony on the grounds of their wedding venue.

Flower Power

Kelly opted to infuse her palette with color using largely burgundy and red flowers in pairings that felt romantic and slightly overgrown, so as not to compete with the hotel's vibrant decor. Vintage cut glasses housed the arrangements.

The reception circled around the pool and the hotel's Purple Palm restaurant. An old mahogany bar is the restaurant's finest feature.

A Winning Combination

Kelly called the wedding mood "Hollywood glam meets Turkish exotic," which may seem like a design challenge to some, but she looked to the venue's decor and vintage fabrics to shape her gold-and-black palette with glints of deep red, purple, and emerald green. With Turkish roots, Kelly felt a connection with The Purple Palm restaurant because it's awash in jewel tones and colorful Moroccan tiles. Mike, a poker hobbyist, also fell in sync with the venue because back in the 1930s, a notorious gangster turned the restaurant's ground floor into a speakeasy and gambling joint.

They also offered up chocolate-chip cookies sprinkled with sea salt from M Street Kitchen, the couple's guilty pleasure of choice. A garland of magnolia leaves festooned the front of the tablecloth.
