Behind the Scenes: Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish's Rehearsal Dinner
The Happy Couple
By now, you know: Actress Kate Bosworth married writer-director Michael Polish in Montana on August 31, 2013—and we were there! All the exclusive details of their day—and the celebrations surrounding the event—are featured in our Winter issue, currently on newsstands or available to download. Here, we share some behind-the-scenes snaps from their fun-filled rehearsal dinner!
A Modern Hoedown
For their wedding weekend, the couple wanted their closest friends and family to come together to relax, celebrate, and seriously enjoy Montana (hiking, horseback riding, fly-fishing, you name it). The night before the ceremony, we helped plan a newfangled hoedown that put the focus on good food, great drinks, and some amazing music—Kate and Michael’s favorite country singers, Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison. In this pic, the soon-to-be-bride takes to the dance floor in a vintage Chloé dress and heels with her Levi’s-clad fiancé.
We worked with the couple and the talented chef at The Ranch at Rock Creek to create one lip-smacking supper for the pre-wedding bash. What was on the menu? Farm-to-table fare, including bison burgers and a roasted pig, plus BBQ baked beans and fresh peach crumble (delicious!). Then the Weddings team designed the menu and had it printed on a fabric banner by Spoonflower, and we strung it up for all to see.
A few hours before the party, senior style editor Naomi deManana fashioned the flowers for the picnic tables with Christina Wernikowski from The Ranch at Rock Creek. In keeping with the Western theme, she loosely clustered wildflowers in rustic metal vessels from Jamali Garden. The white-and-yellow blooms were picked from the 6,600-acre property (with The Ranch owners’ blessing, of course!).
Dinner was served buffet-style, and the seating was casual. Each picnic table was covered with a striped cotton runner from Transylvanian Images and set with enamelware plates, white votive candles, and camp lanterns.
The Place Settings
Michael (little known fact: he’s also trained as a graphic designer) created a monogram, incorporating "C" (for Catherine, Kate's given name) and "M" for his own. We used the motif on many items throughout the four-day celebration, including these bandanas/napkins from Planet Apparel, which were anchored at each place setting with a horseshoe.
Guests sipped on bourbon iced tea served in swing-top bottles made by Specialty Bottle with the couple’s monogram.
The Custom Cocktail Napkins
Here, a collection of the personalized designs that we used throughout the four-day celebration: A “fiesta!” napkin set a party mood for the welcome dinner; the blue hoedown square was emblazoned with a cowboy prayer; the wedding reception’s script motif showcased their new, married monogram; the after-party napkin featured a drawing of the couple by Michael. All printed by For Your Party.
The servers at the Ranch at Rock Creek were also right on theme with big smiles and gingham Western-style shirts.
The Send Off
At the end of the night, guests walked home with bags of freshly baked biscuits and Montana Raw Honey. We designed and used a custom "Grub To Go" stamp made by Rubber Stamps Inc.
