Simple Syrup for Wendy Kromer's Lemon Cake

This basic sweetener is used in Wendy Kromer's Lemon Cake with Black Currant Buttercream.

  • Yield: Makes 1 1/4 cups

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water


  1. In a small saucepan, stir together sugar and water. Bring mixture to a boil and remove from heat. Let cool completely before using. Refrigerate if keeping overnight.
