A Casual Yellow-and-Pink Wedding at Home in California
The Happy Couple
One crafty couple dream up a homespun California bash decked out with soaring bird streamers, bright balloons, and festive pinatas. And they couldn't have pulled it off without a little help from their friends.
Jennifer Garrido and Joshua Duthie share a kiss. Jumbo yellow balloons line the walkway to the home where the couple wed.
The bride designed vellum birds, which were cut in three sizes, affixed with grommets, and strung across the yard with twine.
Jen drew each design, then had the invitations letterpressed and the envelopes screen printed. She also wrote each address by hand.
The Bride's Bouquet
The bride's bouquet, created by friend and Martha Stewart Weddings style director Kate Berry, includes pale-pink garden roses, jasmine, succulents, and a swath of ribbon to match Jen's dress.
The groom's mini-carnation boutonniere brings a pop of pink to his Robert Geller black linen suit.
Jen and Josh's good friend Shelly Hazeltine officiates the joyous occasion.
The 100 guests take in the vow exchange.

Loved ones at picnic tables nosh on grilled mahi mahi, baby-back ribs, and jerk chicken.

Jen and Josh's Dog
The couple's pooch, Peanut, is bow-tied for the occasion.
Goat cheese and fruit whet guests' appetites.

Table Numbers and Escort Cards
Table numbers and escort cards were stamped and lettered by the bride.
Escort Card Display
The escort cards were then hung around a tree on twine using small clothespins.
The signature cocktails: a highball (bourbon and ginger ale) and a Salty Dog (pink grapefruit juice and vodka).
The table decor includes paper-envelope menus, painted-rock numbers, vintage china, and centerpieces of succulents.
A closer shot of the table decor features menu cards that feature the same stamp motif as the invitations and the guest book.
Josh plants a smooch on his new bride. "I really didn't expect to be so nervous," he says, "but Jen calmed me down a lot."
The groom's buddies kick back on a couch placed underneath a redwood tree.
The Wedding Cake
One of the many desserts brought by guests was a coconut lemon-curd cake adorned with chrysanthemums.
For favors, the couple decided on pink salt combined with Aleppo chili pepper and bouquet-garni herbs (a French blend of dried basil, marjoram, and rosemary). The mixture was presented in muslin pouches.
Instant photos taken throughout the day were clipped to twine strung around a tree.
Two guests at the wedding were our own style director, Kate Berry (right), and her sister Joanne.
Josh's friend whacks one of three pinatas stuffed with lottery tickets and confetti: "He hit it at just the right spot and really got the night started," says Josh. Jen's mom was the big winner, bringing home a ticket worth a cool $12.
