An Autumnal-Colored Traditional Wedding at Home in New Jersey
Jeanette and Nicholas
The couple grew up in the same southern New Jersey town and were close in high school. But things didn't turn romantic until one evening in when both were home from college on winter break.
Shapely Chinese lantern pods, a wedding motif, adorn the letterpress invitations designed by the bride's brother and his fiance, who own a stationery company.
Jeanette knitted quirky shawls for her bridesmaids, who chose their own chocolate-brown dresses and carried bright autumnal bouquets.

Flower girls Riley and Kaitlyn, neices of the bride, wear silk-shantung dresses with silk-chiffon sashes and clutch wreaths of bittersweet and Chinese lanterns tied with knit ribbons.
The pair wear crowns linked with ribbon, a Greek custom in keeping with the groom's heritage; the silver headpieces are decorated with rosebuds.
Strings of handmade pompoms -- a gentler twist on tin cans -- were tied to the groom's vintage car, a shiny 1965 Mustang, which transported the couple from the ceremony to the reception.
Colorful sewing pins affix seating cards to felt-covered foam board, which is propped up on an easel. Felt cushions hold the excess pins.
The reception took place in Jeanette's parents' backyard. Beneath twinkling lanterns, reception tables feature vases slipped into knitted cozies and filled with exuberant blooms.
Lengths of yarn wound around rolled napkins hold printed place cards. The table numbers are printed on notecards fastened into a tent with pins.

Two tiers of the cake, by Elizabeth Loudon, are made with the mother of the bride's chocolate cake recipe. Set on a stand trimmed with felt, the confection is covered with bittersweet chocolate frosting and dressed with roses, fiddleheads, and sandersonia.
An odd number of Jordan almonds, which in Greek tradition symbolizes good luck for the couple, were presented in matchbox-style boxes.
