John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Just Opened Up About the Dawn of Their Relationship
"It got serious pretty quickly," recalls the singer.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are one of Hollywood's most iconic couples. Sure, there are duos who have been together longer—but few are so open about the inner workings of their relationships (how it began, what makes it work, and most importantly, last) as this pair. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, both Legend and Teigen dived into their personal and home lives—and also shared how their love story began.
"It got serious pretty quickly," explained Legend, citing his now-wife's dynamic conversation as one of the details that first drew him towards her. "She just entertained the hell out of me, texting me. What people respond to in her tweets today was the same energy in those texts. I didn't know that I wanted someone funny until I was actually with someone funny."
The couple also noted that what you see really is what you get—who they are on Twitter and on the red carpet is genuinely who they are at home. This, Teigen understands, can be confusing or even off-putting, especially when fans misconstrue their in-love energy as false. "There are some famous couples I look at and I'm like, 'Ugh, we get it. Stop trying so hard, you're so lame.' I think people definitely think that about us but…that's because I think of everything."
Through it all, Teigen and Legend work hard to prioritize their relationship while simultaneously supporting their careers. "I'm her biggest cheerleader," Legend says of his chef wife's burgeoning presence in the culinary world. "I always think she should do more." (Need proof that Legend fully believes in his wife? He once chatted with Barack Obama about having magnetic partners who run their own shows: "We joked about how much our wives are loved more than we are now.")
Constant, meaningful support is something the couple practices regularly; Legend recently, in fact, took a flight home—instead of heading straight to an upcoming work engagement—simply to have dinner with Teigen, reports E! News. "I do not normally brag about John, as it is my schtick to make fun of him always, but he flew from London to LA instead of London to DC to have dinner with me and watch love island UK because I haven't been feeling like myself lately," the model shared on Twitter. "Just a few hours but it meant a lot. Thank u."
