The Sweet Detail You Missed in Princess Beatrice's Engagement Announcement
The royal and her longtime boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are set to wed, and their happy news was a family-focused affair.
Another royal wedding is officially in the works: Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are engaged. The princess announced the happy news early this morning, in a statement released by Buckingham Palace. "The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Beatrice to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi," the statement read.
Shortly after the news broke, the couple's engagement photos were released on the royal family's official Instagram account; the happy duo shared a sweet sentiment alongside the images. "We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can't wait to be married," they wrote.
These photographs, however, are slightly different than those of royal engagements past. They were taken by a family member—Beatrice's newlywed sister, Eugenie!—as opposed to a professional photographer. Eugenie posted the images on her own Instagram account to wish the pair well. "Beabea—wow! I'm so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It's been a long time coming and you two are meant to be," she wrote.
Eugenie's sweet snapshots show Beatrice and Mozzi with their arms around each other, smiling and laughing into the camera. While the first image better shows off the royal's engagement ring, the best snapshot of the bauble was actually posted on Beatrice's mother's account (the accessory is comprised of a round diamond flanked by two baguette stones and set on a white gold band).
Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, posted a touching tribute to her eldest daughter, including both the aforementioned photos and more formal (pre-engagement!) images by Misan Harriman. "I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons-in-law," the proud mother wrote.
According to the royal statement, Beatrice and Mozzi became engaged in Italy earlier this month; like many of their counterparts (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, included), they waited a few weeks after the fact to share the news with the public. As for when we can expect our next royal wedding? They're set to tie the knot in 2020.
