Wedding Planners Share Their Trend Predictions for Fall 2019
Textured details, romantic flowers, and the tastiest food yet are all on our experts' radars.
While classic wedding styles will always endure, according to Allison Jackson, owner and lead planner of Pineapple Productions in Washington, D.C., "following seasonal wedding trends is fun, and can be a way to identify fresh ideas that fit into your personal style." This fall is packed with fun and fresh trends, she and other top wedding planners promise, from a focus on moody blooms and emerald hues to a commitment to sharing the season's delicious vegetable bounty.
Here, these planners predict the top six trends wedding guests see (and get to enjoy) this fall.
Romantic, Moody Florals
Jackson says that last fall's dark hues are being "replaced with flowers in softer tones. This year, fall florals are still moody and romantic, but the colors are more muted." Jackson predicts hues of smoky lavender, dusty rose, peachy caramel, butter yellow, and blue-gray. Not only are these tones on-trend, she says, but they are "so very accessible through the use of seasonal blooms like Peegee and antique blue hydrangea, dahlias, and garden roses," like in these stunning bouquets.
Tons of Texture
Jesse Tombs, managing partner of Alison Events Planning + Design in San Francisco, says that layers of texture—think: invitations etched on wood, wrapped in leather, and tied with washed silk; or eclectic seating arrangements made from marble-topped tables flanked by a mixture of wooded chairs and tufted fabric settees—will be on-trend this fall. "Mixing elements in your design will give the look a lived in, more casual and collected feel [perfect for fall]," he says.
Shades of Green
"We are excited to see the summery shades of blue giving way to shades of green," says Jackson, who predicts a variety of green hues—including emerald, olive, silvery sage, and even chartreuse—will be the most popular green choices for couples this fall. "Any green can work successfully as part of a neutral and earthy look or as a base for richer and more saturated colors," she explains.
A Focus on Food
This fall, food won't only be served up on plates or platters, Tombs says. "Why not use beautiful produce to decorate your tables?" he asks. "We always love styling tabletops with fresh tomatoes ripe on the vine, jewel-toned stone fruits, and larger squashes and striped heirloom gourds. These natural elements create a farm-to-table feel to the celebration and make guests feel very comfortable."
Lots of Lace
While Jackson quickly admits that "calling 'lace' a wedding trend is like calling white flowers a wedding trend," she still predicts that lace—at least, an updated version of lace—will be hot this fall. "For example, our brides are selecting lace wedding dresses in edgier, more fashion-forward silhouettes," she describes. "Also, as opposed to the velvet table linens, which were ubiquitous last fall, we will be using lace overlays to create table top looks that are classic with a twist."
Plenty of Plaid
Jackson says that her fall couples have "been interested in designs that reflect refined yet relaxed all-American elegance—and that includes pops of plaid patterns." She's seeing plaid placed in a variety of settings, including tented, mountain, and "even country club weddings," Jackson says.
