Basic Covered Buttons

Button kits, found at sewing stores, let you make shank buttons; you supply only the fabric. Simply cut fabric circles to size and snap pieces together. (Spray-painting the shells white before you wrap them ensures that no metal glare shows through the fabric's weave.) Lightweight cotton or linen works with any size; use a larger button for heavier fabrics such as tweed.
