Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Almost Gave Their Son Archie a Completely Different Name

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are the proud parents of their two little ones: Archie and Lilibet. While they keep their family life largely under wraps, the Duchess of Sussex recently opened up about one important detail tied to their first born: his name. The royal couple welcomed their son nearly 3 years ago, and despite names like Albert, Arthur, and Phillip leading the U.K. betting odds, they gave him the moniker Archie (his full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor). But according to People, the pair almost went with his middle name, Harrison, instead.

During a visit to the Invictus Games, the Duchess of Sussex chatted with a parent who brought along their son, Harrison; Meghan quickly noticed his name's connection to Archie's. "[Meghan] was like 'Harrison, that's Archie's middle name', and Mandy was like 'Yeah, I know,'" said Sherry McBain, a nursing officer in the RAF competing in the Invictus Games, of her wife, Mandy, who spoke with the royal. "They were just having a chat because Harry and Meghan couldn't decide between Archie and Harrison for the first name." The pair ultimately decided on Archie, as it means "genuine" and "bold" or "brave," and Harrison for the middle name, which means "son of Harry," People reported.

The couple's appearance at the Invictus Games marks their first time back across the pond since moving to Los Angeles—and they've received support from the Queen along the way. Meghan and Prince Harry stopped by her estate before heading to the sporting event, and the Duke noted that the visit was especially meaningful. "She had plenty of messages for Team U.K., which I have already passed on to most of them," he told BBC One, Us Weekly reported. "So, it was great to see her. I'm sure she would love to be here if she could."

Aside from seeing their beloved family matriarch, Meghan and Prince Harry have been keeping busy at the Invictus Games and having many conversations that hit close to home. When speaking at the event's opening ceremony, the Duke of Sussex shared his biggest wish for his children: "To grow up in a better world," he shared, according to E! News. "To grow up in a fairer world, a safer world, a more equal world. It's not going to be easy, but I will never, ever, ever rest until I have, as a parent, tried to at least try to make the world a better place for them because it is our responsibility that the world is the way it is now."
