Royal Icing for Sugar Cookies

Spread this over sugar cookies to make a smooth surface for decorating in a wide variety of ways -- from piping to stamps and beyond.

  • Yield: Makes 3/4 cup, enough for about 8 dozen cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1/2 pound confectioners' sugar

Directions

  1. Put egg whites into a medium bowl. Sift confectioners' sugar over egg whites, and stir until smooth. Spread over cooled cookies, and let stand until set, 12 to 24 hours. Decorate as desired.
