Sharon Becker, a professional makeup artist, shares five insider tips that will help you hire the best makeup artist for your big day.
Ask Your Photographer
Can't find a makeup artist from online research? Ask your wedding photographer! He/she likely shoots 15-25 weddings per year and probably knows the best vendors in the area.

Your makeup artist should want to speak with you on the phone to learn about your style, details, and beauty inspiration before the big day. Come prepared with ideas about the look you want to achieve and definitely ask them for their advice! A good makeup artist should be able to take your ideas and turn them into the perfect look for your wedding day.

Trials cost money! Choose one artist by following up on referrals, studying websites, and talking over the phone to see if you're a good fit. Do your homework for the one trial by creating an inspiration board of looks and examining the artist's website to learn her style. That way you can avoid paying for multiple trials before you find the right artist.

Ask the Right Questions
Don't be scared to ask questions! Ask about her process: Does she send a contract and write a beauty timeline? How does she hold the date for you? Another great question to ask is about timing: How long does it take for her to complete one beauty look per person? Asking all the questions you can prior to the event will help you feel more at ease when your wedding day arrives.
