It all started with an embroidered silk organza gown made from a tablecloth that belonged to her mother. That's when a fashion editor recognized Reem Acra's talent, when she was a student at the American University of Beirut. Today, Acra is one of the most respected names in bridal fashion. We recently caught up with her to talk travel, and she revealed her go-to packing tips, how she fights jet lag, and more.

Check or carry-on?

What do you always pack and why?

I always pack sneakers so I can walk quickly. You never know when you'll have to make a run for a flight!

Any tips for packing clothes?

I like to pack outfits in garment bags, shoes in shoe covers, and loose objects into these custom-made small, quilted red pouches. I usually have about 30 pouches. I also use clear plastic bags, which are numbered and labeled.

One article of clothing you never leave home?

I never leave home without a Jil Sander black T-shirt.

What is your go-to airport outfit?

My go-to airport outfit is black sneakers, pants and a T-shirt. It's always comfortable.

What camera do you recommend?

I use my iPhone camera to snap photos on my travels. The photos always turn out beautifully, and I can easily upload them to my Instagram account.

What are your in-flight beauty tips?

Before heading to the airport, I drink several glasses of water since planes tend to dry out my skin. I always tell my fellow travelers to hydrate as well—water does wonders for your skin.

How do you look refreshed after a long flight?

I try to sleep on flights, especially when flying internationally. That way, I look and feel refreshed when I arrive at my destination!

How do you fight jet lag?

Jet lag is the worst! I stay up late the first night I arrive in a different time zone. I find that it helps get me get on track with the current time much faster than if I were to fall asleep early.

Favorite souvenir from your travels?

I love going to local markets to view colorful accessories and vintage collectibles.

What is the most romantic destination you've visited?

Turkey is by far the most romantic destination I've traveled to. The people, culture, food, and music are so wonderful. There's no other place like it in the world.

Where are you going next?

My next destination is Nashville. I love country music, and am looking forward to hearing some live music during my travels!
