While renting has long been the option employed by couples to make men match (any groomsman has probably visited a retailer to borrow a tuxedo that coordinates with the rest of his wedding party), the ability to book a big-day ensemble exclusively from home is in itself worth celebrating. Enter The Black Tux, a growing online resource that allows guys to browse, rent, and return outfits—minus the trip to a store. Here’s what you need to know:

Year established: 2013

Ideal customers: Groom, groomsmen, fathers of the bride and groom, and male guests

Ordering information: Shoppers receive one of each item rented and no backup sizes (but you likely won’t need them).

Length of rental: 10 days

Average rental price: $145; suit and tuxedo jackets and pants from $95; dress shirts, $15; vests, $15–$20; cuff links, $5–$10; neckwear, $5–$10; suspenders and belts, $10; shoes, $25–$30

Try-on technique: Guys who know their measurements can input them directly online and proceed to checkout. A fit specialist will call if the inches don’t add up to a logical size. Clueless customers can measure themselves in ten minutes or less with the aid of The Black Tux’s video instructions. No tape measure? Customer service will send one. To preview selections, shoppers can pay $40 through the “Test Tux Program.” The company sends a jacket and pants to arrive on Tuesday that customers then keep for 48 hours before returning them on Thursday of the same week. The $40 prepayment is credited to a future order should the shopper decide to book a rental.

Return policy: The company provides prepaid envelopes with shipments that customers later stuff with worn clothes and accessories and then drop in the mail following the event. Once received, The Black Tux dry-cleans the garments.

Sizing: Jacket chest sizes, 34–58; pant waists, 28–52; shirt necks, 14–20

Good to know: The Black Tux allows a three-day window post-event to return orders (and admits being open to even more leeway) rather than the standard next-day return. The company also encourages local, professional alterations to achieve the best-fitting ensemble possible and will credit $15 to your account for the hassle. Men who need a different size entirely can call within 48 hours of the event for free replacements.
