The actress chose a custom Oscar de la Renta dress for her marriage to Michael Polish. A 16-foot-long train and cathedral-length veil billowed behind her for a dramatic look befitting of the couple's scenic Montana mountaintop ceremony.

"I wanted to feel like I had wrapped myself in Oscar's beautiful fabrics and stepped forward, the spool continuing to unravel as I moved," she explains. "This design was Oscar's magnificent interpretation of that sentiment. One of the greatest memories of my life is to have worked with Mr. de la Renta on my wedding gown. Simply, he is extraordinary."

For the reception, Kate donned a second, slimmer Oscar de la Renta gown.

"It was embellished with fine crystals, pearls, and tulle," she says. "It was almost invisible, so it looked like the entire thing was made of very fine [details]. It was just so gorgeous. I was deeply in love with both of the dresses."

The femininity of the full skirt and wavelike ruffles are what this bride loved most about her Oscar de la Renta dress, which she accessorized with Gucci white patent-leather wedges, Tiffany & Co. diamond and amethyst earrings, and her grandmother's two gold bracelets. The first dress she tried on, the choice surprised her. She had originally imagined herself in a bohemian-style sheath.

Lisa Tobias bypassed the bridal department and went straight to Oscar de la Renta's evening collection for her light-as-air gown. "The seamstress reconstructed the dress to fit me," she says. "It was unbelievable!" Lisa's Oscar de la Renta featured a slinky Lurex column lining that allowed her shape to be seen under all the volume of tulle. "I particularly loved the way it was subtly longer in the back, creating an ethereal train," she says. "It reminded me of The Princess Bride."
