Bridal Beauty Diaries: Tiana – Finding “The One”

Natural, timeless, whimsical, happy

Those four words best describe the ideal look we desire for our wedding day photos. While searching countless wedding blogs and asking around for recommendations I kept repeating those four words in my mind; just to keep me in line when considering photographers. Admittedly, there were times when I wanted to throw in the towel and just book the cost-efficient amateur or heavy-handed Photoshop "pro," but just when I was about to buckle I stumbled upon THE ONE. My incredible friend Anne, who is also an event planner, suggested that I visit the web page of this adorable Bay Area-based couple who own a photography company called Your Dream Photo. Of course I was hopeful but nervous because everyone I found was either far too expensive or terrible, but once I saw the site I realized they matched every one of my key words and then some.

Our wedding day will be one of the happiest moments in our lives so our photographer needs to be attentive and swift. This may sound weird to some brides but we want as few staged pictures as possible. We're not the forced lovey-dovey type. If someone asked us to kiss on cue we'd be uncomfortable and that would show in the shots. Our PDA happens in spurts and you have to be at the right place at the right time to catch it. While speaking to Your Dream Photo, they mentioned their stealth-like style right off the bat. Even pictures on their site gave us the impression that they like to capture the bridal party and attendants when no one thinks they're looking. That is music to my ears because I want to see the natural happiness exuding from my guests during the ceremony and their sweet freakish dance moves at the reception. Seriously, if they can catch my grandmother busting her Panama City, Florida two-step they will have struck gold!

Knowing that the photos will be candid is fantastic and terrifying at the same time, especially because my smile is all I can think about. I’m currently on my first set of Invisalign aligners, and I know they are doing their job because I can feel the difference with the slight pressure on my teeth. I’m hopeful that the treatment will transform the smile I now know into something altogether different in a few months. I would like to think that my confidence will rise and these photos will be outstanding, but I can't shake the "what ifs." What if the gap doesn't close? What if my fiancé doesn't like it? What if I don't look like myself? I've got to shake away this fear. This decision is big, but it doesn't have to be as daunting as I'm making it out to be. Now that the photographer is squared away I'll focus on rebuilding my courage.

Disclosure: I have received complimentary treatment from Invisalign in exchange for blogging about my bridal journey and treatment, and all opinions expressed are my own.
