Set the Tune: 5 Ways to Personalize Your Wedding with Music

Martha Stewart Weddings, Winter 2014

Many of the most memorable wedding moments are set to music, from a processional that has you tearing up during the walk down the aisle to tunes that keep guests dancing. When our special projects editor, Anthony Luscia, wed, music was a huge part of his event. In planning his "bachelor shower," it was my inspiration, too. Along the way, we came up with fun ideas for incorporating songs into your big day. As Shakespeare said, if music be the food of love, play on!—Darcy Miller, Editorial Director

1. Throw a Karaoke Party!

At a shower, bachelorette, rehearsal dinner, or after-party, nothing bonds new friends faster than grab- bing a mike and rocking out. We celebrated at Pop Star Parties, a recording studio that you can book for events in New York City, but there are studios, private-room karaoke, and portable karaoke machines for rent nationwide.

2. Celebrate Your Song Everywhere

Buy sheet music of your first dance and use it to back menus or line drink trays for the cocktail hour, or punch out shapes to top cupcakes. Serve signature drinks inspired by the lyrics or band name.

3. Give Musical Favors

Everyone will remember your day when they listen to your mix on a personalized flash drive.

4. Turn Escort Cards Into VIP Passes

What better way to let guests know they're very important people? Plus, if they wear the pass, everyone will know each other’s names.

5. Write a Custom Song

My sister sang one on our day—it made an for unforgettable toast! Serenade your spouse or guests, ask a talented friend to do so, or just pass out the lyrics and have everyone sing along.
