Lauren and Jason in Brooklyn, New York
On October 20, 2012, eight years after meeting, and just seven blocks from the apartment they share now, Lauren and Jason got hitched in an elegant celebration befitting the season.
The First Look
A couple hours prior to their arrival at their venue, The Green Building, Lauren and Jason saw each other for the first time that day. A pre-wedding scouting trip resulted in picturesque locations around Red Hook, Brooklyn. The couple's nerves calmed down shortly after a few snaps of the camera.
The Fashions
Lauren chose a delicate pearl gray Reem Acra gown with beaded sleeves. Jason sported a custom Alton Lane tux and Preston & Olivia tie.
The bridal bouquet, created by Fox Fodder Farm, included roses, snow berries, scabiosa, anemones, astilbe, jasmine, and chocolate cosmos.
The Bridal Party
Clad in graphite chiffon J.Crew gowns and black suits accessorized with custom Preston & Olivia ties and PF Flyers kicks, the bridesmaids and groomsmen were ready for their close-up.
Posing With Their Pup
Benson, the love of Jason and Lauren's lives, made an appearance for a few family photos. Images of the canine companion graced the couple's save-the-date and ceremony program.
The Bride's Entrance
Under a veil borrowed from her sister, Lauren entered the ceremony to an acoustic performance of Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" accompanied by her mother and father.
Lots of Light and Love
Lauren and Jason became husband and wife in front of a curtain of string lights and under a simple chuppah. The intimate interfaith service was the couple's favorite part of the day.
Breaking Good
The ceremony concluded with the Jewish tradition of the breaking of the glass by the groom.
Shooting Video
Lauren and Jason shared their first private moments as husband and wife in the speakeasy room at their venue. Jason shot Super 8 footage of his new bride, and Dara and Trent shot footage of the couple, which was incorporated into the pair's final video in a split-screen format.
Family Photos
Family wedding portraits were on display in frames the couple found at a local flea market and in Lauren's grandparents' attic.
The Seating Chart
Michael Tabie of Two Arms Inc. created a chalkboard seating chart to assist guests in finding their dinner tables.
Autumnal Arrangements
Centerpieces consisted of pedestals of roses, ranunculus, scabiosa, astilbe, lambs' ear, and seeded eucalyptus, surrounded by chunks of marble.
A Crimson Accent
Red taper candles added a pop of color to the long dinner tables.
The Menus
Real Food Catering served a feast for dinner: spinach salad with cherry tomatoes and a warm bacon dressing, braised short rib in red wine sauce with whipped potatoes, and roasted sea bass with fresh herb crumbs and honey balsamic glazed green beans.
Going Postal
Vintage postcards were set on a table with pens and a sign that read: "To forever remind us that you were here to celebrate our special day, please take a moment to write us a note. Place it into the box or take one home to write and send at a later date." The cards were hung, and Lauren's mom has since sent a few to the couple on a sporadic basis.
Dancing With Dad
Lauren danced with her father to "Sweet Thing" by Van Morrison after taking a spin on the dance floor with her new husband as "Fools Rush In" by Elvis Presley played.
Up in the Air
The newlyweds were raised in chairs as their 187 guests surrounded them during the Hora.
Magnetic Favors
Handmade glass magnets incorporated black and ivory patterns and were given as favors packaged in small tins tied with a small tag with an image of the Brooklyn skyline.
Special Lyrics
To personalize the speakeasy area of their venue, Lauren worked with her stationer to create a series of framed prints. The artwork took its cue from the song "Autumn in New York," with the lyrics of the seasonal song on display. One verse now hangs in the couple's apartment.
A Cute Cake
A dark chocolate cake was covered with cream cheese frosting and topped with the couple's initials and an ampersand.
Decadent Desserts
A mélange of sweets by Baked NYC were set out for guests to enjoy—including cupcakes, rice cereal treats, and s'mores bars.
