Weddings are a bit of a family business for Annie Meyers-Shyer. Her parents, Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer, cowrote the 1991 remake of Father of the Bride, which Annie’s dad also directed. Annie played the flower girl in the film.
On September 2, 2012, life imitated art when Annie married her leading man Robby Koch in an intimate ceremony in her mom’s lush Pacific Palisades backyard.
The wedding date, calligraphed by Bernard Maiser, was embroidered into Annie’s Oscar de la Renta gown.
A fabulous buttery leather Chanel clutch, Chanel bow bracelet, and white Christian Louboutin pumps finished off Annie’s wedding-day look.
Annie and Nancy snuck a glimpse of arriving guests before the ceremony.
Nancy had a large hand in planning the big day and Annie credits the picture-perfect execution to something her mother told her about the planning process: “She said, ‘I was the director and you were the star, and it helped that I was in love with my star.’â€
Hankies for the ladies, and boutonnieres of stephanotis and camellia leaves for the men, were presented on silver trays from Pottery Barn. The 160 guests put those handkerchiefs to good use during the emotional service
The couple gave special handkerchiefs embroidered by Monogrammit to immediate family members. This one, given to Annie’s dad, reads Father of the Bride.
Robby, in a Ralph Lauren suit and knit tie, shared a moment with his mom after the ceremony.
The framework of the outdoor dining room was built around the backyard's trees. Rope-and-iron chandeliers from Restoration Hardware provided illumination.
Annie asked August Press to create custom fill-in-the-blanks for guests to complete. The couple saved them as fun souvenirs.
Per Annie’s request, local caterer Jennifer Naylor, prepared mini apps and late-night snacks based on Peter Callahan’s creations. On offer were a trio of sliders, tiny fish tacos, Kobe beef hot dogs, and little lobster rolls.
The three-tier chocolate chip wedding cake with vanilla icing was made by Hansen’s Cakes and festooned with stephanotis flowers on the vine.
Darcy Miller, who helped plan the big day, gave Nancy Meyers a special stamped T. Anthony journal and a hand-drawn card.
Small wedding cakes from Sugar Jones were given out as a toothsome way to say thanks.
