Parker Argote proposed to Whitney Pozgay on a French Quarter street during a trip to New Orleans. So it was only fitting that the two would wed only a block away. "We live in New York because we work in the fashion industry," says Whitney, who grew up in Arizona. "But we both knew we had to get married in Parker's hometown -- he loves New Orleans."
With a little help from the groom's New Orleans-based mom, the duo planned a wedding full of fun, personality, and Louisiana flavor.
Artist Erik Johnson's silhouettes of the couple were screen-printed onto kraft-paper save-the-dates. The rest of the suite featured free-flowing calligraphy, and the envelopes were adorned with old-timey stamps.
Welcome boxes included NOLA treats such as Crystal hot sauce, sweets from Cactus Candy, pecan pralines, and Zapp’s famous chips. A paint box reflected the artistic reception venue.
Whitney wore Monique Lhuillier's blush silk jacquard "Peony" trumpet gown, and her white-clad bridal party wore dresses from J.Crew.
Whitney's white bundle of gardenias, garden roses, geranium, allium, ranunculus, and tulips popped against her blush wedding gown.
Parker, in a custom suit by M. Goldberg Clothier, and his best gents in suits from J.Crew and Perlis, posed for portraits in front of Saint Mary's Church.
The groomsmen looked dapper in seersucker ties by Whit and ranunculus and hellebore boutonnieres.
Simple multipage programs were bound at the top with green ribbon.
The wedding bands from In God We Trust were presented at the ceremony on a ring pillow made of striped Hyman and Hendler ribbon.
Smitty Dee's Brass Band, a traditional New Orleans second-line band, led wedding guests through the streets to the reception venue.
Cocktail napkins from ForYourParty.com matched the kraft-paper color scheme and were labeled with the couples' initials, New Orleans, and wedding date in white.
Guests snacked on crab-broiled brisket and herb- and panko-crusted chicken sliders from FoodArtInc.com. They were topped with "Yum!" kraft paper flags on skewers.
Friends mingled and enjoyed Cajun treats at the reception venue, Madame John's Legacy.
At the reception, food stations were set up and appetizers were passed in lieu of a traditional seated dinner. Centerpieces of ranunculus, anemones, hellebores, allium, and cherry topped small tables where guests could sit and relax.
Calligrapher Betsy Dunlap added the cocktail hour catchphrase to the brown kraft-paper napkin cuffs that wrapped silverware during dinner.
The buttercream-frosted, vanilla-and-sliced strawberry beauty was topped with sugar gardenias that echoed the painting above the fireplace by Parker’s grandfather.
Bridesmaids tugged cake pulls from Gem Printing out of the dessert before it was cut -- a Southern tradition that brings good fortune to single ladies.
Guest favors -- heart-shaped "Lolita" sunglasses from Private Island Party in pink vellum sleeves by Paper Presentation -- doubled as fun accessories loved ones could sport in the photo booth.
The photo booth produced two strips of images: one for partygoers to keep in a takeaway frame, another to place in Whitney and Parker's guest book along with their well-wishes.
Pocket squares from The Tie Bar were embroidered for the family by Monograms Off Madison. The couple handed out screen-printed versions of the handkerchiefs to the rest of their guests.
Snow cones from Mr. Snowball, a local favorite, were enjoyed by all at the reception.
Heart-shaped sparklers from Say Anything Design awaited in vessels filled with pink sand. Witty words tied several of the day's elements together, from favors and cocktail napkins to hankies and a "Just Married" sign.
The couple trotted off after the reception in a buggy pulled by Midnight the mini horse, a special guest for the evening from Rowdy's Rascals. The exit was one of their favorite moments, even though "the horse did bite my ears," says Parker.
