A Vintage, Rustic Autumn Wedding Outdoors in Wyoming

Lindsey and Ryan

After a memorable trip to Wyoming's Jackson Hole, Lindsey Gice and Ryan Mottl decided to head back West from their home in Brooklyn to say "I do" surrounded by alpine beauty and countless DIY rustic details.

On the big day, 40-plus homemade burlap birds, strung on long ribbons, fluttered above a buffet. Centerpieces rested on oak slabs that Ryan's parents hewed from a tree on their property. And the 125 guests left with huckleberry- and sage-scented soaps made by Lindsey's sister. Even Mother Nature did her part, providing a flawless fall day that was, in a word, "magical," says Lindsey.

To spread the news, the bride took an image from an old Work Projects Administration poster she found at the Grand Teton National Park visitors' center, shrunk it down digitally, customized the type, and added a tiny couple vowing "I do!" on one of the peaks.

Pairs of critters -- bears on the invites, buffalo on the itineraries, and deer on the replies -- adorned the suite Lindsey designed.

"I'm always wearing boots," says the bride, and her wedding was no exception. She chose a pair from Lucchese for the occasion.

Ink initials on the back of each program mimicked the cattle brand Ryan's father made and used to mark slabs of oak that decorated reception tables.

The couple spoke their own vows, with Ryan promising to make his new wife smile every day, and Lindsey's father performed a song he'd composed for the two of them.

Because it fit in with their vision, Lindsey and Ryan let Spring Creek's waxed-canvas tent remain standing during their event.

"We both love outdoor activities, so we wanted nature to be as present as possible," says the bride. With the alpine setting, the touches of timber, and the creatures featured throughout, they definitely pulled it off.
