Where do a couple who own their own event and design firm get away to? Easy -- two countries where inspiration hides around every corner, in the form of architectural details, works of art, and effortlessly stylish locals. In July 2010, Manhattanites Tracy and Matt tied the knot in the Big Apple, then hopped across the pond to Spain, where they wined and dined their way through Barcelona and fell for Mallorca’s rugged good looks. Then they headed to Italy and indulged in la dolce vita on Capri, romance on the Amalfi Coast, and fascinating antiquities in Rome.

Lodging 411: “We booked all kinds of hotels, but the best splurge was Capri’s Grand Hotel Quisisana, a luxe, centrally located spot with amazing service,” says Matt. “Our favorite save was Rome’s boutique Hotel Teatro Pace, near the famed Piazza Navona.”

Sage Advice: “If you could only travel for a week and had to narrow it down, we’d say do Capri and the Amalfi Coast. With views, gardens, and leisurely boat rides, they’re both heavenly,” says Tracy. “Or, for the best food and architecture, stick to just one big city: Barcelona or Rome.”

Delish Dining: “In Barcelona, the eight-course tasting menu at Cinc Sentits was one of the greatest meals of our lives. My mouth is literally watering, thinking about the seared foie gras,” says Tracy.
