Grapefruit Gimlet

Citrus and ginger put a fresh spin on the traditional gin-and-lime-juice libation.

  • servings: 6


  • 1 cup freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice (from 2 grapefruits)
  • 6 strips (2-by-3/4-inch) grapefruit zest (colored part of peel)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 12 ounces gin, chilled


  1. Step 1

    Simmer grapefruit juice, zest, sugar, ginger, and the water over medium heat 20 minutes. Let syrup cool; remove peel (use for garnish). Add lemon juice; refrigerate up to 2 weeks. To serve, combine 1 part gin with 2 parts syrup and pour over ice; garnish with peels.
