One night out on the town to watch a Penn State game on a local bar's TV changed it all. That's the night Jenn and Cody's paths crossed, and they have been together ever since. The information-technology professionals, now based in northern Virginia, wed in a romantic and intimate late-autumn wedding.
When the couple started dating, they spent a long weekend on a wine-tasting jaunt near Charlottesville, Virginia. Veritas Vineyard and Winery was the first one they visited, and Jenn fell in love with the place. "The moment we walked into the winery, I knew that this was where I wanted to get married someday," Jenn says. "It had a magical feeling, and we loved their wines!"
Nearly five years later, on October 23, 2010, the two returned to the Afton, Virginia, venue for their wedding.
A 1946 Jaguar Mark IV transported the bride and her party from the hair salon to the vineyard, and provided a great backdrop for some of the couple's portraits.
Simply Bloom Photography took Jenn and Cody's pictures on the vineyard's grounds.
Cody wore a gray suit by Jos A. Bank, and Jenn donned a lace and ruffle Alvina Valenta gown from Jeannette's Bridal. She paired it with Badgley Mischka shoes, earrings given to her by her mother, and a bracelet from Rent the Runway
.
Cody's best man and groomsmen also wore gray Jos A. Bank suits with pink ties. Jenn's maid of honor and bridesmaids wore strapless Sue Wong dresses.
The ladies wore soft gray knitted wraps made by Etsy artisan Sweet Knitting
.
Pat's Floral Designs created Jenn's bouquet using cafe au lait dinner-plate dahlias, garden roses, parrot tulips, and dusty miller.
Two of the couple's three dogs served as "flower pups" and wore pink harnesses from Suburban Dog House. The third canine served as the ring bearer.
A chalkboard outlined the seating assignments. Guests were instructed to find their names and pull their corresponding bottles. The bottles contained "love letters" thanking them for being part of the special day and asking them to write letters of their own at the guestbook station.
Guests passed their well-wishes to the newlyweds, Mad Libs-style. The bride created fill-in-the-blank cards, printed them on heavy card stock, and used the Martha Stewart Crafts doily-lace edger punch to trim the edges.
The 50 guests went inside for the reception, where centerpieces of spray roses, dusty miller, gray brunia berries, white hydrangea, and peegee hydrangea anchored the tables. Wine bottles wrapped in screen-printed ivory burlap marked each one.
After dinner, the couple danced to "Lost in This Moment" by Big and Rich.
A cookie table -- a tradition at Pennsylvania weddings -- featured cookies baked by the couple's mothers, such as South Dakota cherry bing bars. Jenn's grandmother contributed her "slice of spice" sugar cookies, as did Chris Dunston of Cakes by Chris (in the bride's hometown).
A cream-cheese pound cake with lemon filling, made by Kathy Watkins of Favorite Cakes, was topped with figurines -- complete with their three dogs -- made by Etsy vendor mudcards
