The Boston-based couple, both architects, first met in 2004 as undergraduates while working on a group project at Miami University of Ohio. "I won't lie -- I tried to get onto her team. She was very talented, and very cute," says Kyle. "We spent hours designing an ancient Greek pavilion."

Three years later, he got down on one knee in front of the Louvre in Paris during a backpacking trip, and pulled out a ring he'd been carrying the entire time. Naturally, Kyle had designed it himself, incorporating a diamond from the ring his great-grandfather had given his great-grandmother when he proposed in 1933. "Kyle gave me the ring with an architectural drawing of it," says Elle, who then wasted no time whipping up a sketch of her own: a wedding that typified their style.

Centerpieces of antique garden roses, raspberries on the vine, viburnum berries, and nigella give the black-and-white tablecloth bursts of color. Verner Panton -- style chairs and reproductions of vintage light bulbs (hanging from trees) add ambience. "Edison's estate is close by, so we thought it would be a fun touch," says the bride.

Here, Elle's father walks her down the aisle to where the ceremony was held on the inn's dock.

The couple chose Useppa, a barrier island off Florida's coast, for their intimate fete. Elle's father, also an architect, spent many years designing homes in the area. "I was only 6 weeks old the first time I visited," she says. "And it's been a special place for my family to return to ever since."

"The sun was starting to set, so the light was perfect," recalls Kyle of the dockside vows.

Guests were given bright and colorful parasols to shade themselves during the afternoon ceremony on the dock. Here, they are displayed creating a beautiful rainbow.

Pre-ceremony, the wedding party assembles around a banyan tree; they wear out-fits that match the CMYK color scheme Elle chose (a designer's tool, the letters stand for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), and the bride wears a Morgane Le Fay dress of ostrich feathers.

The newlyweds share a quiet moment after the ceremony; the bride wears a Yigal Azrouel gown, and the groom is in a Prada jacket, Marc Jacobs pants, and red Paul Smith shoes.

Instead of a guest book, attendees signed a vintage atlas; says Elle, "It added to the Old Florida vibe we were going for."

An assortment of brass vases, goblets, and urns filled with flowers make up the centerpieces.

Guests were given small bottles of bug spray to keep the insects away during the outdoor ceremony and reception.

After the ceremony, guests moved up to the lawn for an outdoor dinner party, where the 27 guests dined on family-style salads, platters of freshly grilled grouper and pork tenderloin, and an authentic Key lime pie in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. "We incorporated as much local food as possible," says Kyle.
