While in elementary school in a Chicago suburb, Lizzie and Matt met in a shared drama class. Now, all grown up (she's a freelancer writer, he's a senior strategy analyst), they were married at The Parker in Palm Springs, California -- a hotel they chose for its funky ambiance and mid-century glamour, as well as its close proximity to Los Angeles, where many of their guests were traveling from. It was important to them to have their wedding in a laid-back, fun gathering place so that all their guests could spend the weekend together.

The paper goods were designed by some of the area's most well-known stationers. Christine Schmidt at Yellow Owl Workshop designed the whimsical save-the-dates. The fishing lure illustration (behind the crest with their initials and a drawing of their puppy) hinted at the couple's love for fly fishing.

The formal invitations were designed by Smythson of Bond Street. Calligraphy was done by Jill Velez Calligraphy, and wedding day collateral featured hand-drawn pieces by Cynthia Warren.

Guests arrived on Thursday night and were welcomed to The Parker with a custom Maptote bag filled with hand-picked personal favorites of the bride and groom, like lobster gummy candy, In and Out Burger notepads, Hadley's date cookies, and saltwater taffy. Friday night, all the guests were bussed to a local restaurant, Las Casuelas Nuevas for a low-key rehearsal dinner. They chowed down on traditional Mexican as a mariachi band serenaded them.

The ceremony took place in the late afternoon, on the croquet lawn under a large olive tree. Danielle Rowe Zunt of Brown Paper Design worked with the team at Alison Events to develop the ceremony decor. She added color to the space with a thick carpet of rose petals strewn down both sides of the aisle. White orchids were hung from the tree and puddled on the grass to create a modern backdrop for the ceremony.

Lizzie and Matt didn't have a traditional arrangement of attendants during the ceremony. Instead, they asked people important to them to join them at the front, without splitting them up by gender.

The couple also included their adorable dog, Harrison, in the ceremony. Lizzie walked down the aisle to a Sufjan Stevens song performed by a banjo player.

Lizzie carried a wild bouquet of bright sweet peas, fuchsia peonies from New Zealand, and angel grass tied with grosgrain ribbon from France.

The boutonnieres paired pheasant feathers and euphorbia finished with a black-and-white gingham ribbon.

Lizzie let her bridesmaids pick out their own jewel-toned dresses from J.Crew. The result was a rainbow of ladies, which fit in perfectly with the eclectic feel of the wedding.

Max Wanger, the photographer behind the day, captured the essence and style of the wedding to perfection. Lizzie and Matt were drawn to Max's unconventional yet utterly gorgeous approach to wedding photography.

After the ceremony, guests moved to the fire pit lawn, where they enjoyed a Lillet cocktail based on Lizzie and Matt's favorite recipe as well as an assortment of passed hors d'oeuvres. Light-gray cocktail linens and jewel-toned vintage glass vases filled with several varieties of white flowers adorned the cocktail tables.

The color palette for the wedding was based on two of Lizzie's favorite colors: bright coral pink and a rich turquoise blue. From there, Alison Events added different accent colors to give each space its own look while still feeling cohesive. The inspiration for the look and feel of some of the design elements came from The Little Door, one of Lizzie and Matt's favorite restaurants in Los Angeles.

Each dining table was named after a specific fly lure, and the display, as well as the table names, was decorated with hand-drawn illustrations of each lure by calligrapher and artist Cynthia Warren. Cynthia also created individual cut-outs on each menu card to form a window that framed the calligraphed name of each guest.

For dinner, guests moved into the Palm Court. Custom drape installations by BAM Specialty Fabric Draping created a formal entryway to the space and made the open lawn feel more intimate. Alison Events hung chandeliers from the palm trees and brought in a 12-foot long mirrored bar for a touch of glamour. The dining linens were turquoise accented by bright-coral menu cards, mercury-glass vessels, and tons of white hydrangeas.

Guests were treated to so many fun details. From a vintage photo station to a five-minute fireworks display, Lizzie and Matt went all out. Each guest's place setting held a bundle of sparklers tied with gingham ribbon, accompanied by a box of matches. The guests dined to the sounds of Ikebe Shakedown, a band flown in from New York. After the party officially ended, some of the guests continued the celebration back at the Gene Autry House, where they munched on sliders.
