After just three months of dating, Tasha Sween and Sanders Marvin went their separate ways but remained friendly. Tasha eventually adopted a puppy born to Sanders's dogs, weimaraners named Joyce and Jup. And it was that puppy, Sabu, who would bring them back together: Three years later, when Tasha was desperately looking for a pet-sitter, Sanders volunteered his services. "I took him out to dinner to thank him," Tasha recalls. "We had a great time. After that we started dating again, and a year later, we were both ready for marriage." On December 22, 2000, he proposed.

Tasha and Sanders's wedding stationery incorporates several personal touches. The invitations feature a map of Wisconsin's Apostle Islands, of which Madeline Island is the largest. The programs are calligraphed with the couple's initials and "Redcliffe Farm," the name of their property, which sits atop a cliff of red earth. The design on the envelope flap is a tribute to their beloved weimaraners.

Tasha and Sanders's August 25, 2001, wedding was held on scenic Madeline Island, off the northern coast of Wisconsin. Surrounded by Lake Superior, the island is fourteen miles long and three miles wide.

Sabu, Tasha's weimaraner and matchmaker, served as a canine bridesmaid, along with her mother, Joyce; her collar of sheer lavender ribbon matches the color of the centerpieces and flowers on the cake.

The couple takes personalized vows against a backdrop of birch trees overlooking the shore; officiant Joel Gibson, an Episcopalian minister, is a good friend of theirs.

Along with wine, guests were served bootlegs, one of the couple's favorite drinks, a mixture of fresh mint, lemonade, limeade, vodka or gin, and club soda.

Escort cards are clothespinned to twine lines hung between pine saplings.

Tasha and Sanders cut their cake, which is decorated with basket-weave buttercream and topped with fresh flowers. The bride wears a narrow A-line Vera Wang organza gown with a duchess bodice and floral-embroidered neckline.

Wine connoisseurs, Sanders and Tasha bought bottles of wine while on vacation in South Africa and shipped them home to give as favors; the tags, attached with ribbon, explain the wine's history.

After the ceremony, the best man, David MacMillan, chauffeurs the couple to a quiet spot for a private toast.
