Leah Phillips and Michael Rafalowich are the winners of the Pop-Up Wedding contest that we hosted with the Brooklyn Bride and the Wedding Library. The couple -- who met in Brooklyn -- wed in front of 20 loved ones at our pop-up chapel in Brooklyn, New York. The wedding decor was inspired by the Pop-Up Party story that appears in our summer 2009 issue.
The venue, 303 Grand, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a revolving storefront. The front was decorated using tissue balls in various sizes, large photos of the summer 2009 issue featuring the Pop Up Party story that inspired the pop up wedding chapel, and calligraphy by Bryn of Paperfinger.
As guests entered 303 Grand, they were greeted by a table of favors and a guestbook to sign. Tissue fans were attached to the underside of the table, a rental from Taylor Creative, Inc. The raw space was transformed by an assortment of tissue paper decorations.
Guests took custom white chocolate lollipops made by Gifts for the Good Life home. The lollipops featured designs from Ice Cream Social as well as the couple's initials.
Guests also took home small Water Lily favor boxes from the Martha Stewart Crafts Line. They were filled with gumballs from Dylan's Candy Bar.
For the groom's boutonniere, senior style editor Kate Berry used a tissue paper bloom from the Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet kit.
Leah took some photographs out on Grand Street. She wore the "Ally" dress from Amsale's Little White Dress Collection and Lela Rose for Payless shoes, dyed Cayman Blue. Topping off her updo done at Butterfly Studio Salon in Manhattan was a birdcage "Elena" veil from Bride's Head Revisited.
The bride's bouquet was created using the Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet Kit, available as part of the Martha Stewart Create line of craft products available at Walmart.
The couple wed under a ceremony structure that appeared in our summer 2009 issue. The ceremony was led by an officiant from Weddings of New York. It was fashioned from white and ivory tissue paper garlands and PVC pipe hung from the ceiling.
Leading up to the altar was an aisle of white FLOR tiles. Guests sat in white glossy Bellini chairs from Taylor Creative Inc. To hide the back of the space, accordion-style "softwalls" from Taylor Creative were erected.
Following the ceremony, guests were treated to lemonade. Bridgewaters of the Glazier Group prepared both alcoholic and nonalcoholic versions. Bryn of Paperfinger created hand-calligraphed signs to help guests distinguish between the two.
In addition to lemonade during the cocktail reception, guest also sipped on Pommery's Pop Champagne. Perfect for a "pop up" wedding!
Seared Yellow Fin Tuna, Mango Chutney, Wonton Crisp. All hors d'oeuvres were served on trays covered in white tissue confetti from x-streamers, tying in with the surrounding tissue paper decor.
Cheryl Kleinman created the white fondant cake. It was then covered in pieces of tissue paper bells, cut into different shapes for each tier.
Jennifer Zabinski and Claudia Hanlin, of The Wedding Library. The Wedding Library played a key part in the nuptials of Leah and Michael.
Anchored above the reception area was a custom peach tissue paper pinata by Confetti System.
The newlyweds received a gift bag that included a tote and gift cards from Tallu-lah as well as some additional stationery from The Wedding Library.
The guests and happy couple popped outside for a group photo with photographer Mel Barlow.
