At her twentieth birthday party in 1993, Hannah Love received the best gift she could have hoped for: her roommate had invited a friend, Charlie Hallowell, who was in town visiting. As soon as Charlie and Hannah were introduced, they felt an instant attraction. Nine years after they first met, the couple was still going strong: along the way they settled in Berkeley and welcomed two children, Eli and Matilda. Yet something was missing. "We were already married in many ways, but we wanted to make it official," says Hannah.
