Name an extreme sport -- kiteboarding, skiing, snowboarding -- and chances are April and Kerisimasi have tried it together. The couple, both resident physicians living in Berkley, Michigan, met in 2006 at medical-school orientation in California. And though initially drawn to each other, they didn't kindle a romance until two and a half years later. "We became such good friends, we didn't want to risk losing that if it didn't work out," says April. Fortunately, they took the gamble, and Kerisimasi popped the question just eight months later atop a powdery Squaw Valley peak near April's hometown in Lake Tahoe, California.

Here, Kerisimasi and April, wearing leis of ti leaf and pikake (otherwise known as jasmine), shine radiant smiles on the 70 guests who came to wish them well.

Mason jars wrapped in sheer fabric held pincushion protea, red ginger, and white tuberose. A sprinkling of rosy pikake blossoms surrounds them.

After sealing the deal under white tuberose swags, the newlyweds jump for joy.

The pair shield themselves with one of the bright parasols April's aunt brought along from San Francisco's Chinatown as colorful gifts for the bride's family.

The beaming bride gives a thank-you squeeze to her 6-year-old half sister and flower girl, Taly Kai Mancuso.

After performing a traditional money dance that Kerisimasi's mother taught them, the pair pose with their stash.

The twosome, dressed in Hawaiian garb, entertain their guests with a choreographed number about the ocean.

"Kerisimasi really wanted to ride off on a Vespa," says April. "So my sister, always going above and beyond, bought us one."
