They don't call it a "grand piano" for nothing. Cocktail hour feels decidedly distinguished with live piano music trickling in.
Balloons may conjure fetes for the under-5 set, but done right, they can fill a big space with stylish fun. And they don't cost a bundle (ours are from Balloon Saloon). To keep it looking grown-up and glamorous, stick to balloons in a simple color palette. Bare walls can be dressed up inexpensively with banners that echo the theme; First2Print made the ones here.
A fancy party just isn't fancy -- or much of a party -- without some French fizz. Here, the celebratory drink serves as both refreshment and decoration. Champagne maker Veuve Clicquot created this soaring tower -- adorned with a simple ribbon -- using coupe glasses.
Sharing the limelight with the band is a selection of Sylvia Weinstock cakes topped with sparklers. Dim the lights, have nattily dressed waiters carry them out, and watch the sparks fly.
At night's end, guide tired revelers home with a candlelit path. Glowing candles in simple glass containers placed along the front steps lend romance. A spectacular garland by event planner Michelle Rago frames the entrance.
