With warm and fuzzy yarn accents, a plain stationery set becomes wedding worthy. Make tiny dots where you want holes for stitches to be (or have them printed, if you can). Choose a textured stock and matching envelope (we lined ours with gift wrap), and a soft ink color to make cards refined.
Yarn Invitation How-To
Punch holes with a Japanese hole punch. Thread a single strand of yarn on a yarn needle; knot one end, stitch accents; knot again at end. Each 5-by-7-inch invitation requires a 7-inch length of yarn for each side, stitched in a short/long pattern and tied in a bow at the center. For 3 1/2-by-5-inch reply cards, use two 2 1/2-inch lengths of yarn; for 4-by-5 1/2-inch programs, use one 17-inch length of yarn.

These were the inspiration for the save the dates for my winter wedding. I just tied a little bow and added a cute play on words ("We're Tying the Knot!"). It's so simple, it was very inexpensive, and skeins of yarn come in any color of the rainbow. It was still classic (like the timeless satin ribbon bow on an invite) but was reminiscent of warm, fuzzy scarves and mittens - perfect for our winter wedding.
this is a very good idea. i imagine you could use this idea on baby shower invites too. thanks for the inspiration.
I love this idea and it's so simple!
We wanted to carry out our retro color scheme through the whole wedding and so we used this idea (in our colors) for our thank you notes. This project was simple but did take some time. Still, it is 10 times better than your basic boring thank you note!
Hello restall,
What a lovely compliment and I thank you for asking! By all means you can use the idea. If you care to share emails I can send you photos of the "samples" I have done.
dancer1106 , love your idea, are you willing to share your project?
I afree with LAMK and ellie-mai how do you know if it is something you might want to do if you can't see it even though it sounds cute.
Here is another idea! I have offered to cross stitch Place Cards for my son and soon to be daughter in law. They will be individual and personal. There will be the name(first only) of each couple along with a design relevant to either their profession or hobbies etc. It is a ambitous task (200 guests)but I love to Xstitch and doing it keeps my restless leg syndrome at bay.
Agreed! It sounds so cute -- but it is very frustrating to read about intricate details that you can't see!!!
I agree, it is very difficult to see the example in detail!
i wish this site would allow you to enlarge images. sometimes it is difficult to see the actual example, as in this photo.
