Outdoor Weddings: Working with Vendors

Martha Stewart Weddings, Volume 25 2003

Be aware that "just because someone does great hotel weddings doesn't mean they can do the same outdoors," says wedding planner Nicky Reinhard of David Reinhard Events. You may need a florist who can make tent poles disappear, a caterer who knows how to put together an outdoor kitchen, and, for an evening wedding, a lighting expert who has worked with tents and landscaping. Before you sign contracts, confirm that your vendors carry adequate liability insurance. Depending on the complexity of the installation, an outdoor wedding can take anywhere from a day to a few weeks to set up. This is an important consideration for two reasons: You may be required to pay travel and accommodation expenses for your vendors, and some venues restrict how long you can use the space.
