Dresses That Sparkle: Chantilly Lace

Martha Stewart Weddings, Winter 2001

A silk chiffon underlay provides a soft, ivory backdrop for Chantilly lace, enhanced with sequins, crystals, glass beads, and pearls. The sheath-style dress is slightly fitted through the waist and ends in a short sweep train. The cap sleeves are silk tulle.

Below, the generous train is playfully pulled up to make an impromptu veil. A silvery metallic thread runs throughout the champagne-colored Chantilly lace, giving the dress a spectacular shine.

A slim, square-neck bodice of silk faille opens into a skirt of pleated Chantilly lace (below). Both are richly adorned with beaded applique of baroque and baby pearls, glass beads, and crystals. The dress is finished with a row of silk-covered buttons.
