Letterpress: One Color on White or Cream

Martha Stewart Weddings, Fall 2004

This category is usually the most classic-looking and least expensive letterpress option, since it requires only one printing plate, but there are many ways to be inventive. For a white invitation (1), a wide green band was letterpressed along with the lines of text; the monogram wasn't raised on the plate, so it remains the color of the paper.

Blue ink on a cream save-the-date card (6) is used unexpectedly: At the top of the card, it's the background shade, while the words are in the paper's color; at the bottom, the reverse is true. Bordered stickers for favor boxes (7), tag-shaped seating cards (9), and coasters (13) are also impressed with a single color of ink.
