Ring Bearer Shirt Elbow Patches How-To

Martha Stewart Weddings, Summer 2011

Tools and Supplies

  • Ink-jet or laser printer
  • Fabric (two pieces, each about 4 by 3 inches)
  • Fusible webbing, such as Stitch Witchery
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Scissors
  • Boy's shirt (ours is from American Apparel, americanapparel.com)

Basic How-To

1. Download our PDF file, and open it using Adobe Acrobat Reader (if you are using a Mac, use Reader instead of Apple's Preview application). Most browsers already include this program, but if you have trouble downloading the file or would like to upgrade Acrobat Reader, you can obtain the latest version of the software for free from Adobe's website. Print.

2. Following package directions, use the iron to fuse one side of fusible webbing to the wrong side of the fabric.

3. Cut out template, and trace patches onto wrong side of fabric. Cut out.

4. Position each patch over the elbow of the shirt's sleeves, and follow manufacturer's direction to fuse it in place. (If the properly positioned patch will interfere with the shirt's button placket, slit the patch along the line of the placket's open edge; the fusible webbing will keep it from unraveling.)
