Texas Spice Rub

Guests will long remember their trip to the Lone Star State with this homemade spice rub tucked into their travel bags.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon paprika

Directions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients.

Cook's Notes

This recipe can be easily multiplied and keeps well, so you can make it in advance. This spice rub is delicious with steak, pork chops, or chicken. Rub about 1 tablespoon of the mixture onto an 8-ounce portion, and grill or broil immediately.
